Luz Church to celebrate 500 years

The Church of Our Lady of Light, also knows Luz Church in Mylapore will be celebrating 500 years from 6th to 15th August 2016 in a grand manner. The Church was built in 1516 on the very spot from which a divine light appeared to save the stranded Portuguese sailors. The word Luz means light in Portuguese language. The foundation stone of this Church is considered to be one of the oldest European monuments in India. The historic ancient Church was raised to the status of a Shrine in 2010 and also a heritage Monument shrine in the city of Chennai.The 500 year jubilee celebration of Luz Church starts on 6th August 2016 at 6pm.
