World Service Day Project inaugurated

The Inauguration ceremony of an upgraded Dining Hall for Greater Chennai Corporation Shelter for Homeless People took place on 7th October 2018 at Greater Chennai Corporation Shelter for Homeless situated along No.18/17, Old Slaughter House, Road, Thattankulam, Chennai.Indian Community Welfare Organisation celebrated “WORLD SERVICES DAY PROJECT” by Inauguration of upgraded Dining Hall for Greater Chennai Corporation Shelter for Homeless People. Mr.A.J.Hariharan, Secretary, ICWO welcomed the gathering and shared about the purpose of the program. This program aims to provide upgraded Dining Hall for the residents. He also welcomed the volunteers to celebrate their birthdays, Anniversaries with the elderly people in the shelter. This will helps to improve the dignity of life of the residents. He also thanked the officials of Greater Chennai Corporation for the support to administrate the shelter. This shelter functions 24 hours and ensures safe space, nutritious food, clean drinking water, emotional support, regular medical checkup with physical fitness.
This project is supported by Greater Chennai Corporation and ICWO is implementing agency to ensure a safe space and life with dignity for homeless people in Chennai. He thanked the Lions Club of Golden Friends for their support by providing upgraded dining hall for the residents of the shelter. Speaking on the occasion Lion A.Prabhu, President, Lions Club of Chennai Golden Friends said - I extremely pleased to be the part of this initiative to support Homeless people in Chennai. We have been supporting this shelter for more than 2 years. As a part of Lions Club we will continue our support to the Shelter in near future, he added. The Chief Guest PMJF Lion A. GULAM HUSSAIN, District Governor, LIONS CLUB OF DISTRICT 324 A1 inaugurated the upgraded Dining Hall and distributed table, chairs, plates, 8 rice bags and a gas stove. PMJF Lion M. Selva Kumar,MJF.Lion P.Sathish Kumar,MJF Lion. Yoga Raja,Lion M.M. Chelladurai,Lion P. Ramajayam and Lion.P.V.Joshy, Regional Chairman had participated in the programme.
Ms.G.Malliga, aged 70, a residents said I came out of my home and till now I have never had any comfort for the past 20 years. Thank you for the upgraded dining hall facilities by the Lions Club. Mr.S.Ramesh, aged 62 stated that he feels at home. I was very happy to be the residents of this kind shelter. I thank ICWO and Greater Chennai Corporation for the support extended to me. Ms.Aruna, aged 68 said that she is grateful that the facility is upgraded I am one of the residents in the shelter for homeless people. I pray for the homeless people across the world. Ms.Rukmani Ammal, aged 73 said that he wishes for all the homeless people across the world will have and same type of food and shelter. Ms.Devika Thilak, Deputy Director, ICWO rendered vote of thanks. In her address she thanked the guests participated in the program for supporting the elderly people. She also shared; At present there are 52 residents in the shelter and upgrading the facilities to increase the residents. ICWO request individual and corporate join with ICWO & Chennai Corporation to extend support based on the different need of the residents.
