24 boys rescued in Chennai on 7th Feb 2023

Indian Community Welfare Organisation- ICWO together with Tamil Nadu Government Labour Department,/ Childline, Directorate of Industry safety and Health, Sub-Inspectors Law and Order, Police Department, District Revenue Officers(DRO) and District Child Protection Unit jointly conducted a raid to rescue bonded labor/ child labour on 7^th February 2023 in Sowcarpet Chennai. From ICWO A.J.Hariharan , Praveena Solomon and S.Jaya, Volunteer for translation joined the team.

24 children from northern states were rescued. The translation between the labour departments and rescued boys was done by Ms.Jaya ICWO volunteer. The children speak Bengali, Hindi and Gujarathi. Most of the boys were from Koltaka who come from deprived and poor family background. They all came by agents who brought them from their native places to Chennai.The rescued boys were taken to Elephant Gate Police station for registration and produced before Children welfare committee. Later the rescued boys were sent to Government home for boys at Royapuram. A whole day search was vigorously done by the team to ensure safety for the venerable children.
