Celebrate the festival of colours

To celebrate the festival of colours,Discovery Tamil will premiere ‘SPIRIT OF INDIA – HOLI’,a one hour special programme that will delve into the rituals of this fun filled festival. The programme will showcase the cultural folklore that surrounds Holi, a festival that breaks all social barriers as India comes together every year to celebrate this colourful carnival.

Viewers will get to see up and close how Holi is celebrated in Mathura and the week-long merriment that take place across popular temples in Braj, the city of Lord Krishna, the iconic Radha- Rani temple of Barsana, the popular Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan among others. Premiering on March 23 at 9 pm, SPIRIT OF INDIA – Holi is part of Discovery Tamil’s biggest television series SPIRIT OF INDIA that offers ode to the festivities across the diverse culture in India.Witness this festival unfolding all its colourful glory in SPIRIT OF INDIA – HOLI only on Discovery Tamil, Discovery Channel and Discovery HD World at 9 PM.

Painting exhibition by Award winning women artists

In view of International Women’s Day, a group painting exhibition by three talented women artists namely D.Shrinithi, M.Anuradha and Vivia Valentina is on at gallery “La Galerie D’Expression,” in Hotel Ambassador Pallava, from 16th to 31st March 2016. The painting exhibition was inaugurated by Dr.B.R.Annapillai, Founder-President of Tamil Nadu Arts and Crafts Improvement Association and Ex.Gc.Member of Lalit Kala Akademy, New Delhi on 16th March 2016 in a grand and colourful manner. Mrs.Shrinithi has won the Kumaran Silk Award held by TACIA in 2012, 13, 14 and 15. She also won the Jury Award in the year 2013 for the Sri Ajanta Kalaramam, Tennalii and won the special award in the year 2013 for AMMA ART ACADEMY at Sullurpet. Mrs.Anuradha has won the 2nd place award for International women’s day event conducted by ‘DURGA,” an NGO in Bangalore. She also won the Rajaji Award for All India Art competition in 2014 conducted by AAA Academy at Nellore. Mrs.Vivia has won the first prize award at a corporate level competition held at Ascendas IT Park in 2011.Her paintings are currently displayed at Naturals saloon, St.Thomas Mount, Chennai and at the restaurant “The Shaack,” Anna Nagar, Chennai.

Hitachi Receives 23 Elevators Order for Five Star Deluxe Hotel Project

Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501, “Hitachi”) has announced that, through Hitachi Elevator Asia Pte. Ltd, which is the supervising company for Hitachi’s elevator business in Southeast Asia, India, and the Middle East, and Hitachi Lift India Pvt. Ltd. (“Hitachi Lift India”), which is an elevator and escalator marketing and service company in India, Hitachihave been awarded an order for 23 units of elevators from ITC Limited which is renowned asluxury hotel chain in India for their Five Star deluxe hotel project “ITC Kohinoor” in Hyderabad, India.“ITC Kohinoor” a 5 star deluxe hotel located in the heart of the new business district in Hyderabad overlooking the picturesque DurgamCheruvu Lake will offer 290 guest rooms & suites.
The food &beverage offering at the hotel will comprise of an integrated 3 meal restaurant, 24/7 cafĂ©, 3 specialty restaurants, a bar and a separate section for banqueting and conferencing facilities. Estimated year of launch - 2017. All the high speed guest elevator will be equipped with advanced technology, such as earthquake operation functionality, which enables elevators to evacuate rapidly to the nearest floor when its sensors detect that the building is swaying as the result of an earthquake and regeneration system, which saves power by utilizing regenerative power produced according to elevator operation.The car will be also driven with “Future Reference-Trajectory Control”which is a function of group control system aiming to minimize the long waiting period by forecasting future trajectory.
 This “Future Reference-Trajectory Control” also helps in energy saving by reducing the number of cars. An additional advanced technology named instantaneous reservation and service forecasting, which assigns the elevator immediately to the passengers on receiving calls and indicates by flashing lanterns of assigned elevator, has also been provided for the project.The order also includes 4 units of service lifts which will be to cater for service usage from the parking area to top floor and 11 units of machine room less type elevator for small travel and usage like spa, banquet hall, restaurants, ball room, club etc.

Valedictory function of Valliammal College for Women, Anna Nagar East was conducted on the 14th of March 2016. Dr.T.V.S.Padmaja,College Principal presided over the function and addressed the young learners on the importance of achieving their goals in life imbibed with values and ethics. The student council members presented the reports of the committee and department activities of the year 2015-2016 and certificates were distributed.

Inauguration of Push Trust Children’s Library

Hope Torch along with Madras Christian College, Social Work Department, Push Trust and students from Hope University, Liverpool, England had joined hands for providing a child home and a wonderful community library having a collection of over 750 children’s books. The inauguration ceremony of Push Trust Children’s Library located at Grandline Redhills took place on 1st March 2016 in a enjoyable manner. The library was opened with the ribbon cutting by Dr.Yesudasan, Librarian of Madras Christian College in the presence of Dr.Prince Solomon, Professor, Dept of Social work, Madras Christian College, Chennai.
The opening ceremony was a memorable achievement for both Joanne and Laura, second year social work students of Liverpool Hope University, UK, completed their placement in Chennai India with a memorial achievement. During their time in Chennai, they had continuously worked for long dedicated hours to raise as many funds as possible to open a much needed library in Chennai. They have raised money to purchased 750 English books, decorations, furniture and fittings for the library. It was a memorable moment for Joanne and Laura when the library was opened and seeing the excitement in the children. A big thank you and applause was given by all the children to the students from Hope University, Liverpool, England for all their hard work in setting up a wonderful library for children.
